Bad times for barbecues, butchers look grim

The heavy rains did not only have consequences in Zermatt or Morges. Many butchers also look grim. Abject weather over the past three months has had a significant impact on their sales in what was supposed to be the peak barbecue season.

“We sell less, fewer grills, fewer skewers, fewer sausages, merguez, prime rib. We lost 10 to 15% of our turnover on Friday and Saturday,” says Franck Rollet, director of Boucherie du Molard, an institution in Geneva. “The good barbecue season is from April to mid-July, after which people go on vacation. We only have a few Saturdays left.”
