The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) says it has detected new cases of avian flu on two poultry farms, located in Abbotsford and Chilliwack, British Columbia.
Several cases of avian flu have already been recorded in these two cities since October.
Currently, theACIA identified 41 locations in Canada where cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza have been detected. British Columbia is the province with the most, with 37 locations.
Last week, a British Columbia teenager was admitted to hospital after contracting bird flu. This is the first time that a known case of avian flu has been contracted by a human in Canada.
The World Health Organization says avian flu has circulated widely among wild birds and poultry for more than two decades, but infections in humans are rare.
