Building on its excellent results against Australia (1-1) and France (2-1), Switzerland approaches its last two meetings of the year, Friday against Germany at Letzigrund (RTS2/7:50 p.m. ) and Tuesday against England in Sheffield (RTS2/8:35 p.m.), with confidence.
Faced with the two Euro 2022 finalists, the objective will be to confirm the latest good performances. Pia Sundhage will, however, have to cope without several starters including captain Lia Wälti and the heroine of the success against the Blue Naomi Luyet. “Cis an opportunity more than a challenge“, underlines Coumba Sow when referring to those who are absent. “It’s great to play against teams like that.“
It’s a safe bet that the Swedish coach will renew the 3-5-2 which allowed the Swiss to lock down spaces but also to create clear opportunities.
“SIf we defend as well as in the last matches, then we can hope for a positive result“, is convinced Noelle Maritz. Which would be a great achievement. Switzerland has never beaten Germany in 18 confrontations (17 defeats/1 draw) nor England in 12 duels (11/1).
