“My STI test”: can minors benefit from the system?

Called “My STI test”, this system complements and replaces “HIV Test” – HIV screening at the patient’s request without a prescription, 100% covered without age limit, implemented in 2022.

The 5 infections concerned

  • Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV);
  • Neisseria gonorrhoeae (blennorragie);
  • Chlamydia trachomatis (chlamydiose);
  • Treponema pale (syphilis) ;
  • Hepatitis B virus (HBV).

In accordance with the decree of July 5, 2024, screening in a medical biology laboratory (LBM) without a prescription for these five STIs is free, without an appointment and without advance payment, for insured persons under the age of 26.

Beyond the age of 26, it remains 100% covered by health insurance for HIV and reimbursed according to the usual rate of coverage for the other four STIs.

Annexed to the decree of July 8, 2024 is the self-questionnaire model to be completed by the patient upon reception at the LBM, allowing the medical biologist (and him alone) to direct him towards the most relevant screenings in relation to of his sexual practices, by following a decision-making algorithm.

When the results are positive to one or more of these STIs, they are communicated to the patient by the medical biologist by telephone call or when the patient comes to the LBM. He must then refer him to a care structure adapted for the medical treatment of STIs. The report of the results of its examinations, to be transmitted to the patient, includes the main information for guidance on care as well as prevention messages on the risks of pregnancy and transmission of STIs to sexual partners.

When the results are negativethe main information on the means of prevention in sexual health must be reported in the report of the results of medical biology examinations transmitted to the patient.

Laboratory procedure kit

A procedure kit to download is made available to professionals for their activity within the framework of this program. It contains the following 6 procedures.

1. Registration of patients eligible for the My STI laboratory test system and referral of ineligible patients to a Cegidd

2. Delivery of the self-questionnaire to the patient when they are received in the medical biology laboratory

3. Verification and confirmation of a positive result

4. Text blocks to be integrated into the results reports sent to the patient after announcement of the result by the medical biologist

5. Referral of the patient in the event of a positive result for viral STIs

6. Referral of the patient in the event of a positive result for bacterial STIs

The full procedure kit is downloadable in ZIP format.

Carrying out these tests in the case of minors

In accordance with the decree of July 8, 2024, the medical biologist pharmacist must obtain written or oral consent from a holder of parental authority for screening

In the case of a minor presenting to the LBM, for whom consent could not be obtained, they should be referred to a CeGIDD (Free Information, Screening and Diagnostic Center).

Please note: in CeGIDD, in the event that the minor expressly objects to consultation with holders of parental authority in order to keep their state of health confidential, they may be accompanied by an adult of their choice.
