After the unprecedented unleashing of Mother Nature on Friday evening, the entire Mesolcina valley in the Italian Graubünden is rolling up its sleeves. On Monday, work began to repair the 200-meter stretch of the A13 motorway, devastated by landslides and floods, near the Soazza region.

According to the Federal Roads Office (Ofrou), this week, the task will be to clear the bed of the Moesa river so that it can flow better. And from the following week, the actual work of reconstructing the A13 between Lostallo – the main town affected by the powerful storm – and Mesocco will be undertaken. Late Sunday evening, the cantonal road between these two municipalities was reopened, but only for residents and delivery people. Ofrou predicts that, “if weather conditions permit and the work proceeds without difficulty, the A13 will be partially reopened to traffic in around a month.”
