Last Wednesday June 26, the 74th edition of the Anjou Festival closed with the “ Game of love and chance » by Marivaux at the Plessis-Macé castle.

At the end of three weeks of shows, the festival can rejoice in its success: “ Ten days before the first performance of 2024, we had already reached financial balance », Indicates Jean Robert-Charrier, the artistic director.

In 2023, the deficit of 180,000 euros forced the company competition to be canceled and the event to be shortened. The president of the Department, Florence Dabin, explains that “ the economic model has been revised to allow the continuity of the festival ».

The teams managed to attract new partners, increasing the number of patrons from 39 to 61, representing more than a third of the total budget, while public funding is less than 50%.

In total, the festival sold no less than 25,760 seats, reaching 95% occupancy, ” a record in 20 years “, according to Ronan Pichavant, director of the festival.

Jean Robert-Charrier also announced his return for the 2025 edition, referring to his appointment at the Bouffes Parisiens and at the Porte Saint-Martin theater: “ I am already on the lookout for the pieces that will be performed on the stage of the Anjou Festival. ».

The main new feature will be the return of the companies competition, ” an important meeting to discover the emerging troops », explains the artistic director. The festival format is expected to span three and a half to four weeks, “with potentially two performances on Saturdays “, according to Jean Robert-Charrier.
