Vaccination campaign against seasonal flu and Covid-19
Tahiti on November 12, 2024. The Health Department is launching its new joint vaccination campaign against seasonal flu and Covid-19 this Tuesday, November 12. This will extend until April 30, 2025 inclusive. Like every year, this campaign aims to protect the most vulnerable populations from the serious risks posed by influenza and Covid-19, in particular for people aged over 60, patients with chronic pathologies, pregnant women. , and people working in exposed professions, such as health professionals and flight crews (air and maritime).

Despite a decline in the global threat linked to Covid-19, the virus continues to circulate, particularly with the JN.1 variant, presenting risks for susceptible populations. Indeed, the results of the 2023-2024 seasonal campaign show 259 hospitalizations linked to influenza, with 11 deaths in Polynesia, while Covid-19 caused 75 hospitalizations and 3 deaths.

This joint vaccination initiative therefore offers the possibility of simultaneous administration of the two vaccines. There is no specific delay between the two, in order to simplify and strengthen the protection of people at risk. These vaccinations are free for target audiences in all Health Department healthcare structures as well as in approved pharmacies in Tahiti and the Leeward Islands. Vaccines are also available over the counter for anyone wishing to protect themselves.
