Bolt, the 100% green and local electricity supplier, is back on the Walloon market… with attractive prices: “We have strengthened ourselves”

Good news for Walloon consumers? The energy supplier Bolt is returning to the Walloon market, with rather attractive prices. In reality, Bolt had never really left Wallonia, retaining a portfolio of 2,000 clients but no longer taking on new ones.

The energy price crisis was there. Bolt then focused on Flanders. Today, according to spokesperson Dorien Janssens, Bolt has 70,000 customers.

A small supplier, therefore, but with ambition. “The market calmed down and we grew,” says M.me Janssens. “We have strengthened ourselves, for example by recruiting French speakers, to improve the service. Our ambition is to make the market greener, more transparent, more human. »

Green and local

Special feature of Bolt: it prides itself on being a local green energy platform. That is to say, it works with local green energy producers, “from the bioenergy proposed by Jonathan in Mettet to the hydraulic energy of Stéphane in Hastière,” Bolt says in his presentation. “With us, energy is produced near you. » Around fifteen Walloon producers sell their surplus electricity produced by the recovery of organic waste, hydroelectricity, wind power and even solar power. In total, Bolt works with 217 producers.

Dorien Janssens assures us that all the electricity sold is produced by local players and not purchased on the markets. We explained here that a good part of the “green” electricity sold on the Belgian market was not really green (we are talking about embodied energy) but that it became artificially green through the purchase of green certificates. to renewable producers. Nothing like that here, then. But if Bolt wants to grow in Wallonia, the platform will have to find other producers. The development potential in Wallonia seems very interesting for a supplier like this, he says it himself.

Competitive

When it comes to price, we have consulted the price list for this month of June 2024. And indeed, the price is very competitive. Special feature: Bolt does not differentiate between off-peak and peak rates. A single price therefore, with a variable contract. The cost per kWh is 9.34 euro cents. At Mega, in June, the price for the Online Flex contract is 12.9 cents per kWh on a single-hour meter. At Engie, for the Easy variable contract, the kWh is 10.9 cents on a single hourly basis. On the other hand, Luminus is offering a kWh at 6.99 cents this month on its Basic contract. Please note, if Bolt does not charge a fixed annual fee, it asks for 11 euros per month of subscription to its platform.

The presidents of the MR and the Engagés already agree on several points, at the energy level. The presidents of the MR and the Engagés already agree on several points, at the energy level.

Finally, for prosumers, the price at which Bolt buys your electricity (injection rate) is significantly more attractive than with other suppliers. In June, it is 5.65 euro cents while it is around 3 cents for others, or even less.
