The Design Parade is back in Hyères and Toulon. For this 2024 edition, it is the international design festival which opens the ball this June 27 at Villa Noailles, in Hyères. As usual, ten young artists were selected to participate in the design competition. The jury is chaired by Fabien Cappello, “ a huge designer who lives in Mexico », underlines Jean-Pierre Blanc, general director of Villa Noailles and founder of the event in 2006. For the record, he was one of the finalists of the first edition of the Design Parade Hyères. « He left his mark on us with his cast aluminum lamps », remembers Jean-Pierre Blanc.

This time, he returns with an exhibition called “We meet at the villa”. “ This is an invitation. I want to show that design is not an isolated practice but that it creates links. It’s an exchange between humans. » Visitors to Villa Noailles will be able to walk on the carpets and sit on the sofas created for the occasion.

She will be part of the ten exhibitions visible at Villa Noailles until 1is september. Among them, we can also cite the installation by Nathalie du Pasquier, that of Guillaume Aubry which will take over the facade of the building or the exhibition “Marie Laure de Noailles painter. Conversations”. Johan Fleury De Witte, its curator, explains: “ I wanted to show the artistic work of Marie Laure de Noailles, which has never been done since her death in 1970. We compare her works with artists from her circle of influence. » Among them, Jean Cocteau, Max Ernst and even César.

The Olympic flame exhibited in Hyères

New this year, the Design Parade is also taking over the city center of Hyères. Within the Templar Tower, the public will be able to admire the flame created for the Olympic and Paralympic Games by French designer Mathieu Lehanneur. « This is the only place in France where it will be visible. We can see the creative process with drawings, models, films… », explains enthusiastic Jean-Pierre Blanc.

The tower will also host a retrospective dedicated to the painter and ceramist potter Yvon Bonnet. In the annex of Villa Noailles, the public will be able to see the creations of young artists based on cork.

An “off” version of the festival will also be visible at the Villa Romaine as well as at Château Saint-Pierre until July 7.

Interior architecture in Toulon

Within the former bishopric of Toulon, place interior architecture. For this eighth edition, the competition is chaired by Marion Mailaender. On the exhibition side, the works of Marianne Ladreyt who designs furniture and fittings from recycled buoys or the embroidered stained glass windows resulting from the collaboration between Victoire de Brantes, Lesage Intégrés and the Vastrakala workshop of excellence will be visible until November 3. « For the first time, we will offer a Moroccan design showroom », specifies Jean-Pierre Blanc.

Finally, theToulon Arts Hotel will host, from June 29 to November 3, design and textile arts collections from Mobilier national and the National Center for Plastic Arts (Cnap) as part of l’exposition “Remix”. Resulting from a partnership between the Mobilier national, the Cnap, the Métropole Toulon Provence Méditerranée, the Villa Noailles, the Center Pompidou and the Museum of Decorative Arts, it brings together nearly 60 artists, designers and interior architects.
