The historical value of the Glorious Green March, symbol of unity and symbiosis between the Moroccan people and the Throne, was highlighted during a conference organized by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in the Republic of Guinea- Bissau, and the Amílcar Cabral University of Bissau.
Placed under the theme “the experience of our two countries in the struggle for independence”, this meeting, which is part of the Friendship Day between Morocco and Guinea-Bissau, was organized on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of the Green March and the centenary of the birth of Amílcar Cabral, father of Guinea-Bissau independence.
On this occasion, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco, Babana El Alaoui Mohamed Salah, highlighted the historical value of the Green March, symbol of unity and symbiosis between the Moroccan people and the Throne , recalling that this historic event had allowed the peaceful recovery of the southern provinces of the Kingdom.
He also mentioned the Revolution of the King and the People of 1953, a founding moment in Moroccan resistance to colonialism, illustrating the unwavering alliance between the Moroccan people and the monarchy.
On the other hand, Babana El Alaoui highlighted the African vision of HM King Mohammed VI, based on active and supportive South-South cooperation, highlighting Morocco’s commitment to development, peace and stability. in Africa.
For his part, the Rector of Amílcar Cabral University, Herculano Arlindo Mendes expressed his deep gratitude to the Moroccan Embassy for organizing this event, testifying to the friendship and historical ties between Morocco and Guinea -Bissau.
Welcoming Morocco’s unwavering support for the struggle for national liberation led by Amílcar Cabral, he recalled the warm welcome and logistical support offered by the Kingdom to Guinea-Bissau activists.
The rector, in this sense, stressed that this Moroccan solidarity was crucial for his country’s aspirations for independence.
For his part, Professor Raul Fernandes, President of the Scientific Council of the university, highlighted Morocco’s historic support for liberation movements in Africa, as well as the visionary and very Africanist role played by the late His Majesty King Hassan II in the defense of just causes on the African continent.
In this regard, he affirmed that Morocco was the strategic ally of the liberation movements in Africa, thanks to a wise and visionary policy, making the Kingdom a pillar in the realization of the independence aspirations of African nations.
As part of the celebration of Friendship Day between Morocco and Guinea-Bissau, several cultural and sporting activities were organized, including a basketball tournament, (Morocco-Guinean Friendship Tournament – Amílcar Cabral Edition) in the presence of the Guinea-Bissau Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Maria da Conceição Évora.
The closing ceremony of this day was marked by a reception organized at the initiative of the Embassy of the Kingdom and attended by senior Guinea-Bissau officials, including the Minister of National Defense, Dionísio Cabi, the Inspector General of the Armed Forces, General Lassana Massaly, from the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Marcelo D’Almeida, from the former Prime Minister, Baciro Already, representatives of the diplomatic corps, representatives of international organizations, as well as personalities from the world of business, media, culture, civil society and members of the Moroccan community residing in Guinea-Bissau.
