Saudi Arabia had called for this Summit to examine developments in the situation in the region, against a backdrop of the continuation of the Israeli war against Gaza and Lebanon, and its dangerous repercussions on regional security and stability, as well as to coordinate the positions of Member States.
This extraordinary summit was opened by HRH Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Abdelaziz Al-Saud, Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Places of Islam, King Salman Ibn Abdelaziz Al-Saud.
In his speech, the Saudi Crown Prince called “to unify the positions of member countries and to put pressure on the international community with a view to acting to stop the continued aggressions and find lasting solutions guaranteeing stability and peace in the region”.
According to an official Saudi source, this Summit is being held as a continuation of the Extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit of November 11, 2023 in Riyadh, illustrating the awareness by the leaders of Arab and Islamic countries of the importance of unifying efforts and adopt a common position regarding the serious and unprecedented developments in Gaza and the other Palestinian territories.
