Health. The Alzheimer Society Haut-Richelieu, in its latest newsletter, presents the free mobile application MoCA health professional, thus allowing an early diagnosis to be obtained.
Le MoCA (Montreal Cognitive Assessment [évaluation cognitive de Montréa] or MoCA Test), is a tool that helps detect mild cognitive impairment early. This test was developed in the early 2000s by Doctor Ziad Nasreddine, who studied medicine at the University of Sherbrooke.
Application
This self-assessment takes less than seven minutes to complete. It consists of answering around thirty short questions. The results of this assessment make it possible to detect cognitive disorders, such as Alzheimer’s.
This self-assessment is offered through the MoCa XpressO digital application, which can be downloaded for free on a phone, tablet or computer.
Benefits
The MoCA test has several advantages. It is quick, self-administered and available free online.
It makes it possible to differentiate normal memory loss from cognitive disorders that require medical monitoring. This test is also designed to identify individuals at risk for future cognitive decline. (M.-A. C.)
