The Ecomondo 2024 Exhibition, held from November 5 to 8 in Rimini, Italy, brought together the major players in the green economy, waste management and environmental technologies. Senegal, represented by a delegation including the National Integrated Waste Management Company (SONAGED) and other companies, such as PROPLAST Industrie and Green Business Africa, highlighted its initiatives in favor of the circular economy, particularly in recycling of materials.
The participation of Senegal and VivAfrik at the Ecomondo Show
With the support of VivAfrik, Senegalese sustainable development media, Senegal strengthened its presence at the Ecomondo Show in 2024. In collaboration with local companies specializing in recycling, SONAGED presented its solid and liquid waste management model to improve the environmental sustainability. The SONAGED stand, installed at the “International Sustainability Center”, raised visitors’ awareness of waste management issues and promoted solutions for recycling cardboard, a central material in waste reduction.
Innovations in cardboard recycling and ecological solutions
Advanced technologies for sorting and recycling cardboard were at the heart of discussions at the show. Ecomondo 2024 highlighted machines for sorting, transforming and recycling cardboard. This material, essential for packaging, benefits from innovative processes for its recycling, aimed at minimizing CO2 emissions and reducing the consumption of natural resources. This initiative is part of a circular economy approach, where waste is transformed into new sustainable products.
Public-private cooperation to strengthen recycling in Africa
The Ecomondo Fair also served as a platform to encourage partnerships between the private sector and African governments. Local initiatives to collect and reuse materials, including cardboard, show the commitment of participating countries to develop efficient recycling infrastructures. VivAfrik, present to cover the event, relayed the exchanges and new collaborations in favor of the green and sustainable economy.
Ecomondo: a global showcase of the green economy
Ecomondo 2024 confirmed its role as a global crossroads for the green economy with the participation of 72 organizations and 100 delegations. Its executive director, Corrado Peraboni, described the event as a “community catalyst” with opportunities for international collaboration that will continue throughout the year. With more than 650 buyers from various continents, Ecomondo is an open door for ecological and innovative solutions for sustainable development.
