POLITICS – The CFDT, the CGT, the UNSA, the FSU and Solidaires call for “manifest as widely as possible” this week-end “to support the need for progressive alternatives for the world of work” before the early legislative elections of June 30 and July 7, according to an inter-union press release published this Monday, June 10.

“Our Republic and our democracy are in danger”, alert these unions to the risk of a victory for the extreme right during the election. These five unions also ask the government to renounce ” immediately “ to its unemployment insurance reform.

“By deciding to dissolve the National Assembly, and to organize legislative elections in three weeks, after the first departures on vacation and on the eve of the Olympic Games, the President of the Republic takes a heavy responsibility”warn the union organizations.

Call to “democratic and social surge”

“We need a democratic and social revival. Otherwise, the extreme right will come to power”, warn CFDT, CGT, Unsa, FSU and Solidaires. The organizations are demanding in particular “return to pension reform and unemployment insurance reform”.

“The government must in particular immediately abandon its unemployment insurance reform”, they ask. The N.1 of the eight unions, members of the inter-union which stood up in 2023 against the pension reform, met Monday evening at the headquarters of the CGT in Montreuil (Seine-Saint-Denis).

FO, the CFE-CGC and the CFTC are not signatories to the text released Monday evening and to the call to demonstrate. The meeting lasted approximately two hours and did not result in any speeches. The secretaries general agreed to meet again by July 9.

A press conference at the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (Cese) against the reform of unemployment insurance must be organized on Tuesday by the CFDT, the CGT, FO, CFE-CGC and CFTC.
