Faced with a housing deficit estimated at 325,000 units and an annual demand for 12,000 additional units, Senegal signed an agreement with the Turkish company Bayindirlar Construction to build 30,000 affordable and modern housing units. This commitment aims to meet growing housing needs and promote access to quality residences.
The Senegalese Minister of Urban Planning, Moussa Bala Fofana, initialed this agreement in the presence of Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, during his official visit to Turkey on October 31 and November 1. In addition, a memorandum of understanding was signed with the Turkish Ministry of Urban Planning to introduce technical innovations in the urban planning and construction sectors in Senegal, with the aim of accelerating the modernization and sustainability of Senegalese cities.
The partnership also provides for a public-private collaboration model (PPP) to structure the supply of materials via purchasing centers. This initiative is part of a global memorandum of understanding between the presidents of the two countries, targeting strategic projects in priority areas such as security, energy and agriculture.
In a statement on social networks, Moussa Bala Fofana expressed his satisfaction by emphasizing the importance of this visit to consolidate relations between Senegal and its Turkish partners, particularly in the housing sector. The minister also mentioned promising discussions with stakeholders involved in waste management and the reconquest of maritime zones.
