When we talk about Canadian players who could represent their country at the Four Nations Showdown, the name Patrik Laine doesn’t come up often for obvious reasons.
But are we passing over his case too quickly?
According to the CEO of the Finnish team, Jere Lehtinen, we absolutely must not take Laine out of the race too quickly. This was reported by journalist Shawn P. Roarke, from the NHL website.
Obviously, what we notice is that time is working against him. After all, it is on December 2 that the Finns (and the other teams too) will have to submit their roster for the tournament.
On December 2, it will be about a year since Laine last played. And we can think that he will not have returned to the game yet.
It is therefore improbable to think that on December 2 he will be chosen. But at the same time, we must not forget that subsequently, each team will undoubtedly have to name replacement choices.
Maybe all this can give Laine hope? Who knows.
I wonder if the Canadian likes that idea. After all, while playing in the tournament should be fun for a player, it’s a big tournament for a guy who hasn’t played in 2024 yet.
It feels like the 2022 Olympics with Carey Price’s knee…
