Hicham Rahil was appointed, this Monday, November 4, to the position of director of Casablanca Mohammed V airport.

Nominated by Adel El Fakir, Director General of the National Airports Office, Hicham Rahil holds a doctorate in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics from the Hassan II University of Casablanca and a National Master’s Degree in Engineering and Optimization of Transport and Logistics Systems. Having worked at ONDA for around twenty years, he has held several positions of responsibility, notably at Casablanca and Nador El Aroui airports.

To support the constant evolution of air traffic, and guarantee the processing of baggage in the best conditions of safety and punctuality, in accordance with international standards, ONDA has carried out a major project of redevelopment and modernization of the equipment of the baggage handling lineannounces the Office, moreover.

Covering an area of approximately 3,000 m², the new baggage handling area for transit flights is equipped with a high-tech system including the latest generation equipment for baggage security screening. This system consists of two conveyor lines equipped with automatic explosive detection (EDS) devices. Thus, the two conveyor lines direct “clear” baggage towards a carousel for loading continuing flights, and if necessary, towards a third line equipped with a dual-view X-ray scanner for “suspicious” baggage requiring additional control.

This new system makes it possible, according to the same source, to process 1,500 bags in transit per hour, ensuring “rapid and efficient” handling, allowing a clear improvement in the punctuality of this category of flights.

ONDA also claims to have strengthened the system of baggage delivery on arrival by equipping the dedicated area with inclined carousels offering greater processing capacity and reducing waiting times.

The baggage delivery area now has 10 belts, 7 of which have been replaced by the latest generation equipment, offering increased capacity and making it possible to respond effectively to the growth in traffic, while reducing waiting times for the baggage recovery, specifies the ONDA press release.

In addition, a global renovation project of the baggage claim room will be launched soon, to offer passengers a modernized, more comfortable and functional space, for a better passenger experience.
