L“this is a serious time,” says Caroline Franckx, General Director of the Brugmann University Hospital and president of the federation of Brussels healthcare institutions (GIBBIS). “If we gathered today it is because we are deeply worried about the health of the people of Brussels.”

On May 30, the Moniteur Belge published the new additional distribution of medical magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) devices. Flanders will benefit from 89 devices, including fifteen new ones, Wallonia will receive five for a total of 49 machines. However, no new devices have been granted to the Brussels Region, which currently has 21.

Following this decision, the directors and heads of radiology of the main Brussels hospitals came together to denounce the position of the Minister of Health. “An incomprehensible decision”, according to Karel Van De Sompler, general director of GIBBIS, which “amounts to denying the needs of an entire region”.
