“LThe Agency is working, in anticipation of the year 2025, to reach 232 aquaculture farm projects with a target production of 115,900 tonnes and the creation of 2,720 direct jobs and this through the provision of areas with high aquacol potential in different regions in Morocco with a view to encouraging and incentivizing investors in this sector”, indicates the department in a press release published at the end of a meeting meeting held on Wednesday October 30, in the presence of the Secretary of State to the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, in charge of Maritime Fisheries, Zakia Driouich.
Speaking on this occasion, Zakia Driouich emphasized the importance of the aquaculture sector in Morocco and its growing dynamics as well as the enormous potential available to the Kingdom, considering that the sector was able, thanks to the strategy Halieutis launched by King Mohammed VI, position itself among promising and strategic sectors and offer great potential to contribute to food security, job creation, encouragement and stimulation of investments, creation of high added value and supporting socio-economic development.
In addition, this sector has been marked by the strengthening of its regulatory and legal arsenal over the last two decades, which has made it possible to provide a clear vision to investors in aquaculture throughout the national coast, she said. added.
In this regard, and in order to enable the sector to ensure the continuity of its dynamics and meet current and future challenges, particularly those linked to food security, the encouragement and incentive of investors, the creation of employment opportunities and strengthening the competitiveness of the sector, she insisted on accelerating the implementation of programs and projects linked to the aquaculture sector, supporting professionals, encouraging and stimulating investors through several measures including notably tax and financial measures and training, support and qualification of the workforce.
Likewise, Zakia Driouich called for the acceleration of the procedure for publishing the legal texts currently being studied while emphasizing the importance of pooling the efforts of all partners for better implementation. implement structuring projects in this sector according to a well-defined schedule and in accordance with the far-sighted royal vision and the new development model as well as the government program.
Furthermore, due to the crucial importance of aquaculture products at the national level, she stressed the need to adopt a communication and promotion strategy for these products with a view to strengthening visibility and attractiveness. of these products and bring them closer to the Moroccan citizen, knowing that these products meet all the standards and health measures in force.
These structuring projects have enabled the sector to achieve continuous growth, marked by the creation of 173 aquaculture farms already operational targeting an annual production of more than 99,400 tonnes, in addition to 61 projects in progress for an annual production estimated at 24,800 tonnes, and the creation of 626 direct jobs.
At the same time, this sector was able to implement ten regional aquaculture plans covering more than 2,300 kilometers of coastline to ensure sustainable development of the sector in eight coastal regions of the Kingdom, in this case the Oriental region, Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceïma, Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra, Casablanca-Settat, Marrakech-Safi, Souss-Massa, Guelmim-Oued Noun and Dakhla-Oued Eddahab.
Among the other structuring projects currently being carried out by the agency is also the development program for aquaculture projects on land, particularly in remote areas not suited to agriculture.
Regarding support in terms of training and capacity building for project leaders, ANDA continues to implement its various programs and measures aimed at providing technical support and expertise for 465 marine aquaculture projects spread over 6 programs. Likewise, given the importance of supporting the digital transition of the aquaculture sector, the State Secretariat for Maritime Fisheries will support ANDA in accelerating the digital transition of its projects through the development the implementation of the information system master plan and its strategic development plan.
The meeting was an opportunity to present detailed presentations on the programs and projects led by ANDA which continues the implementation of the aquaculture zone development program and development of aquaculture platforms and integrated rear bases in the different regions of the Kingdom, as well as the program to strengthen youth employment and the creation of a new generation of entrepreneurs in the field of aquaculture.
Dedicated to the study of the mechanisms for implementing structuring projects and programs in the aquaculture sector in Morocco and its development, the meeting was also marked by the presence of the general director of ANDA as well as managers of the said agency and the State Secretariat for Maritime Fisheries.
