Rabat – The Minister of Industry and Commerce, Ryad Mezzour, pleaded Thursday in Rabat during the 28th session of the General Assembly (GA) of the Arab Organization for Industrial Development, Standardization and Mines (AIDSMO ), in favor of strengthening cooperation and industrial integration between Arab countries.

Speaking at the opening of the work of this AG, the minister called for consolidating the role of AIDSMO as a key player in the current debates on the modernization of Arab industrial policies, emphasizing the need to strengthen sovereignty industrial development of Arab countries and to plan future projects to keep pace with global industry.

The AIDSMO ministerial council constitutes a platform for dialogue, exchange and evaluation of the Organization’s performance, he said, noting the need to promote industries based on creativity, innovation and modern technologies to strengthen the competitiveness of the Arab industrial sector.

For his part, the Director General of AIDSMO, Adel Saker, indicated that the organization of this AG makes it possible to strengthen cooperation and coordination between Arab countries in the mining sector, thus contributing to promoting investment and sustainable development in this vital sector.

The work of the AG includes the draft of an action program and the organization’s budget for the period 2025-2026, he said. He further noted that AIDSMO works for the adoption of modern technologies and digital transformation, including artificial intelligence, with the aim of strengthening innovation and achieving sustainable industrial development.

The Palestinian Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, Arafat Hussein Suleiman Asfour Abusnina, also president of the 28th session of the AIDSMO AG, for his part, praised the work of the Organization for the effective implementation of technical activities and programs in the fields of industry and mining.

For his part, the President of the previous session of the AG and Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion of the Sultanate of Oman, Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, affirmed his country’s commitment to support joint Arab work and create a favorable climate for investment and respecting international agreements.

“AIDSMO has accomplished several significant projects, including the creation of an online platform for Arab industrial and mining products, with the aim of implementing other ambitious projects,” he added in a speech read on his behalf by Saleh bin Saeed Musan, representative of the Omani Ministry of Commerce.

Organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, this session brought together several senior officials from Arab countries and the General Secretariat of the Arab League, as well as numerous regional and international organizations. It was marked by the handover ceremony of the presidency of the AG, from the Sultanate of Oman to the State of Palestine.

The meeting was also an opportunity for AIDSMO to sign several agreements with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, as well as with various regional and international organizations. In addition, AIDSMO launched the Arab Strategy for Standardization and Quality 2024-2028.
