It’s official, The Plucky Squire is all set to release this year. During the Summer Game Fest, the developers announced it, revealing gameplay footage at the same time. We had the opportunity to get our hands on it, and one thing is for sure: in 2024, The Valiant Little Page is an experience not to be missed!
At Summer Game Fest 2024, Devolver Digital showed off more of The Plucky Squire, the first game developed by All Possible Futures. At the same time, our editors on site had the opportunity to take it in hand in order to test some phases of gameplay.. The preview video is also available just above! The title stands out for its cute and creative approach, mixing 2D and 3D game sequences. The developers have managed to create a captivating universe, where players are immersed in an adventure that is reminiscent of the Zelda saga! In France, Le Vaillant Petit Page should be released in 2024 on PC, Switch, PlayStation and Xbox. No specific date has been communicated.

“A cute game that crosses dimensions”
During our preview, we had the opportunity to discover a childish world in 2D. Indeed, the action takes place in a storybook until the evil wizard Humgrump understands that he himself is the villain of the story and that he must be defeated by the page Jot. The villain then decides to change the course of the scenario in order to prevent his defeat. This is how the player embodying the protagonist will have to overcome the challenges to ensure the triumph of the good guys!
Where the game manages to surprise and stand out is through the diversity of its gameplay. For Jot, the book from which it comes is not a border. Indeed, you will be able to oscillate, thanks to green swirls, between a 2D world through the pages and the real world in 3D! In order to solve certain puzzles, it will be essential to discover the desk on which the book is placed. For example, in one gameplay sequence, the player must exit the story to block a cog with a stamp found in the 3D universe and thus continue to advance in the level. This clever interplay between the two dimensions adds a layer of complexity and satisfaction to the game that feels well-executed. The Plucky Squire also features plenty of encounters with NPCs that challenge the player to solve. During our preview, we encountered a rocket in a cup, because yes, the 2D world extends to other elements of the desktop.
The comparison with Zelda does not stop at solving puzzles. Indeed, the player is often confronted with enemies that he will have to defeat if he wishes to advance in his adventure. For this, a sword is available and it is even possible to use it as a boomerang! The Plucky Squire still has many surprises in store: action phases, platforming, boxing matches, shoot’em ups, card battles… All Possible Futures’ title seems to draw inspiration from the classics of the genre to offer a unique experience. The Valiant Little Page is one of the gems of independent games to discover this year!
