At the end of the 1980s, a Geneva accountant organized his own murder, calling on one of his friends, a former robber. He wants to disappear, while allowing his loved ones to benefit from the life insurance taken out for the occasion.
At the center of the 16th episode of the RTS podcast “Swiss Crimes” is the story of a ruined Genevan accountant, who orchestrates his own murder. He hopes to settle everything and allow his loved ones to benefit from his life insurance, which is worth several million francs.
He chooses an ex-mobster, a long-time friend, to take care of the macabre task. He convinces him that he is sick and that he will only shorten his horrible suffering, while making money in the process.
Amazing road trip
The duo then begins a journey through Switzerland, while thinking about the ideal method to end it all. Luxury meals, great wines, cozy hotels… they indulge themselves, until October 10, 1988, the fateful day, when the ex-robber executed the accountant in a hotel in the Bernese Oberland. But what the killer doesn’t know is that he has been manipulated.
Interviewed in the podcast, Geneva-based journalist and legal columnist Corinne Jaquet returns to this affair, which she covered from start to finish, with a series of scoops. A significant affair that she also details in her collection entitled “Murders to order“, published by Editions du Chien Jaune in 2022.
