LGCT 2024: “Cannes Stars” wins the team title, von Eckermann sets a record

The German-American team « Stars» marked the history of show jumping becoming the first all-female team to win the prestigious championship Global Champions League 2024organized in Rabat as part of the final of the Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT)which is being held for the first time in Africa.

The Cannes Stars won the title with a total of 301 points, ahead of the “Riesenbeck International” team (281 points), title holders for two years, and the “Stockholm Hearts” who accumulated 270 points. After this victory, the leader of the group, Deborah Mayersaid she was happy to win the title of this edition, noting that the “Cannes Stars” achieved a great dream, thanks to the efforts of all the components of the team. For his part, the team representative, “Riesenbeck International”, Philipp Weishauptregretted losing a title that they won the previous two editions, assuring that his team will come back stronger next year. Note that the four teams on the podium are guaranteed to participate in the Global Champions Playoffs, scheduled for Saudi Arabia next November.

Henrik von Eckermann wins the Qatar Cultural Years Prize

The world number one in the Longines ranking, the Swede Henrik von Eckermann and her horse Iliana won a resounding victory during the Qatar Cultural Years Awardsa 1.55m event of Longines Global Champions Tour of Rabat. This historic victory marks not only a personal triumph for von Eckermann, but also the largest individual five-star (CSI5*) victory ever recorded on the African continent. After winning Africa’s first CSI5* event the day before, von Eckermann performed flawlessly in this high-level competition, beating Dutchman Maikel van der Vleuten and Elwikke by 0.21 seconds. Third place went to the Belgian Celine Schoonbroodt- De Azevedo and Deesse des Embruns.
