Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois presented the details of his school food proposal on Sunday during a public meeting in Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve.

“After CPE and parental leave, this would be the third major pillar of a Quebec that truly believes in equal opportunities,” declared the parliamentary leader of the second opposition, in front of the audience at Chic resto pop.

Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois proposes to gradually deploy a universal lunch program in all elementary schools in the province by 2027 and in all schools by 2030.

Ultimately, Québec solidaire estimates the costs of the program at $770 million per year. However, it would bring economic benefits of approximately $4.2 million, in particular, because it would be sourced from local farmers and organizations, according to Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois. “The social benefits would be incalculable,” said the elected official.

According to a Léger survey commissioned by Québec solidaire, two-thirds of Quebecers agree with the introduction of free lunches in schools.
