On Thursday, October 17, the Police Service (SPL) arrested a 14-year-old teenager in connection with disturbing calls targeting different establishments in Laval over the past two weeks.

In recent days, several establishments have received threatening calls, which resulted in preventive confinements in certain schools.

Although these threats were unfounded, the SPL, the Laval School Service Center and other partners worked together and made no compromise on the safety of the population.

“A major police investigation has begun and our teams have spared no effort to ensure everyone’s safety,” Laval police said in a press release.

Cascade of events

Remember that on Wednesday, October 9, the Poly-Jeunesse secondary school, in Fabreville, and the Laval Specialized Trades School, in Chomedey, both received threatening calls triggering preventive barricaded confinements.

On Tuesday, October 15, it was the turn of L’Odyssée-des-Jeunes and Georges-Vanier secondary schools to experience a similar situation.

The next day, Wednesday October 16, the situation became even more serious with a minimum of four establishments called, including the secondary institutions Saint-Maxime, Saint-Martin, La Croisée and even a primary school in Sainte-Dorothée.

First appearance

On Thursday, October 17, SPL investigators, assisted by the Azimut squad, arrested the young suspect at his family home.

A search also took place in order to shed light on recent events. The suspect was taken to the Detention Unit where he was questioned by investigators from the General Crimes Squad.

He appeared in the Youth Division of the Court of Quebec on charges of threats, public mischief and breach of conditions.

He remains detained and will return to court on Monday October 21.

Unfinished investigation

Despite this arrest, the investigation continues. SPL patrol officers will continue to ensure increased visibility in multiple public places.

“Our priority remains to ensure safe environments for all students and the Laval population,” specifies the SPL in its communication to the media.

Information utile

The SPL would like to remind you that any person who initiates a call to 911 or who triggers a false police investigation is exposed to criminal charges, from the age of 12.

“We invite parents to educate their young people about the repercussions of their actions,” concluded the Laval police via press release.

Anyone who has information regarding these events can communicate confidentially on the SPL info line at 450 662-INFO (4636) or 911, mentioning the event number LVL-241016-023.
