(Quebec) Conservative leader Éric Duhaime wants to “unite” with CAQ MPs from the greater Quebec region to advance the third link. He invites them to a meeting to praise his bridge project.

“In a desire to join forces and put partisanship aside, I invite you to meet with me next week. I would like to present to you the project proposed by the conservatives: a bridge between the Île d’Orléans and the South Shore, in direct continuity with the new 2.7 billion bridge between the North Shore and the Island, already announced by your government earlier this year,” wrote Éric Duhaime in a letter to CAQ deputies.

By the same token, the Conservative leader debunks the “international appeal” launched by the Minister of Transport, Geneviève Guilbault, last week for the third CAQ link. According to him, this operation “would have the effect of postponing until after the next elections the decision to build or not this important infrastructure for the economic development of Eastern Quebec.”

“I know well that it is unusual for a party leader to invite deputies from another party with a view to uniting around a unifying project, but the time is serious enough to try something different. In short, the bridge before the party! »continues the conservative leader in his missive.

Éric Duhaime probably wants to take advantage of the recent outings of the mayor of Lévis, Gilles Lehouillier, to try to make political gains. Mr. Lehouillier took aim at the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) and affirmed that Éric Duhaime was the one who most “energetically” defended the project.

“The mayor of Lévis, Gilles Lehouillier, politely and judiciously reminded yesterday that Minister Guilbault has “limited credibility” in the file of 3e link, she who was the gravedigger last year,” writes Mr. Duhaime.

The conservative leader wants to recruit a disappointed CAQ deputy in order to have a presence in the National Assembly. So far, his efforts have been in vain.

Last month, the member for Saint-Jérôme, Youri Chassin, left the CAQ to sit as an independent. Despite his chemistry with the Conservative Party of Quebec, he did not want to join it.

The Qc125 poll aggregator shows that Éric Duhaime could win CAQ seats in the Quebec and Chaudière-Appalaches regions.
