Jennifer Lopez discusses her divorce publicly for the first time

More than a month after filing for divorce from Ben Affleck, Jennifer Lopez talks about her separation for the first time and takes stock of this difficult year.

Jennifer Lopez breaks the silence. During an interview with Interview Magazine on Wednesday October 9, the 55-year-old star spoke about the difficult period she has just gone through. While the star officially filed for divorce from Ben Affleck on August 20, two years after their marriage, she looked back on this year without ever specifically naming Ben Affleck, specifying that today she is there “where she had to be.

Returning to what matters to her, the star explained: “You have to be whole if you want something more whole.” “You have to feel good about yourself. I thought I learned that, but that wasn’t the case,” the singer continued, before returning to what happened this summer. “And then, this summer, I had to say to myself: ‘I need to go away and fend for myself. I want to prove to myself that I can do it’.”

The pain almost destroyed him

Asked about the difficulties of this choice, JLo conceded that this period had been extremely complicated. “We feel alone, in the unknown. It’s sad. We feel hopeless. But when we sit with our feelings and say to ourselves: ‘These things are not going to kill me,’ we actually tell ourselves that we are capable of joy and happiness on our own.

“That’s not to say the sentence didn’t come close to destroying me for good. It almost happened. But now, on the other side, I say to myself: ‘this is exactly what I needed'”, notes Jennifer Lopez who now wants to cultivate self-love and freedom.

“Being in a relationship doesn’t define me. I can’t look for happiness in others. I have to find happiness in myself,” underlines the star, ensuring that today, she enjoys her status as single and “looking for no one.”

She also returned to the tour she canceled in June, emphasizing that the decision was necessary. “I was so devastated to let it go but I just needed to be with my kids and myself and really dig deep into the things that were going on in my life,” the star explained. “And I’m glad I did, because it was a very difficult time for me. It was probably the hardest time of my life, but it was also the best because I was able to do this work on myself.”

For the record, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez separated for the second time in June, after deciding to give themselves a second chance in 2021, before getting married in the summer of 2022. In 2004, they had already experienced a first breakup, four years after their engagement.

Today, Jennifer Lopez intends to find her fans quickly: “I will be on stage to entertain you sooner than you think,” concluded the interpreter of “Jenny from the block”, determined to move forward .
