on Thursday October 10, the Prefect of Gers, accompanied by the DDETSPP of Gers, went to a Gers breeding farm, in Sainte-Dode, in order to participate in the vaccination of a breeding of 12,000 ducklings, as part of this new campaign.

is the first country in the European Union to vaccinate duck farms against avian influenza. Vaccination complements the biosecurity measures put in place to better protect farms and limit the occurrence of very impactful and costly epizootics.

During the first 2023-2024 vaccination campaign, 3 million ducks were vaccinated in the Gers with 85% of the costs covered by the State.

For the new campaign, the State’s contribution for the year 2024 amounts to 70% of the overall cost, including the cost of the vaccine, supervision by the health veterinarian and active surveillance of vaccinated farms.

This vaccination concerns all duck farms with more than 250 animals, and will take place throughout the year throughout France. It can be carried out at the hatchery or on the farm for the first injection and on the farm for the second. In breeding, this is done by the breeder, or the veterinarian, or technicians from companies providing vaccination services.
