14th season: small changes in the game “The Cheater” have rekindled the flame of host Guy Jodoin

Guy Jodoin considered leaving The cheater at the end of the 13e season, but refreshing ideas proposed by the new production team have rekindled his flame as an animator.

Without distorting the popular TVA show, we jazzed up certain aspects to please its captain.

“I won’t hide from you that I was thinking of hanging up my skates. I thought it would end there for me. I spent 13 years Sweet Salty and I said to myself: “13 years of CheaterI feel like I’ve done the trick.” And finally […]we were able to find a new sandbox, to find new things, which makes us very happy. I am the spokesperson for this team of brains, everyone has worked extremely hard to bring new twists and new material,” said Guy Jodoin during a recent set visit.

To animate The cheater for so many years, it takes more than communicative skills or perseverance, you need to know how to play. It is in this chapter that Guy Jodoin finds his account, exploiting his talent as a performer to deliver a host of characters in different sketches captured at the MELS virtual production studio.

The changes in this 14e season are nevertheless part of the continuity because we especially did not want to destabilize the viewers. “With the changes, my pleasure is really there! [Le producteur] Jean-Philippe Dion asked me if someone could challenge me in my fortified castle in Cheater. I told him to shake things up to improve the show,” Guy Jodoin said in an interview.

Lots of preparation in advance

Guy Jodoin stays on by investing in the preparation of each show, even each question.

In his dressing room that we were able to visit at the MELS studios in the Saint-Hubert district, in Longueuil, he showed us piles of sheets with notes, erasures and lots of colors, the host being more prepared than the we believe.

“I want to give fun factsbut there is no one who will go get them for me. That’s what makes me have fun and what makes me understand the questions, what makes me understand what we’re talking about!” said the one who, since mid-August and until next spring, has 170 episodes to box, at a rate of 20 per week.

Gaétan, the damn little devil!

In addition to the new show opening and many added segments, we also revamped the devil and Guy’s neighbor, baptized Gaétan, who started talking and who takes great pleasure in causing trouble on the set. It’s Guy who gives the voice of this “little devil from Pixar”, an expression that we steal from the one who, since year 1, has taken part in 453 days of filming and piloted 2265 episodes of the Cheater.

The decor was not changed per se for the 14e season, but the team worked on the color tones and relied on gradients “so that it would be more visually harmonious,” indicated producer Marie-Ève Rocheleau, of Productions Déferlantes, who took the plunge after a call for applications after TVA abandoned internal production and entrusted it to external companies. In this case, Quebecor holds a minority stake in Déferlantes.

Several members of the team left as a result of this restructuring, but others stayed to bridge the gap. This is the case of content producer Caroline Lemieux, executive producer Olivier Benoit and director Francis Darche.

Note that by the end of the season, more than $5 million will have been donated, over 14 seasons, to the various foundations represented by the participants of the Cheater.

According to confirmed data from Numeris for the period September 9-29, an average of 779,300 viewers watched The cheaterwhich is equivalent to 35.5 market shares, two more than from September 11 to 1is October 2023. The first episode of the 14e season, broadcast on September 19, has been the most followed so far, with a confirmed average of 984,000 curious people.
