Storms, thunderstorms, floods… the weather is getting out of control in France

This evening, the streets of Mouroux in Seine-et-Marne are completely flooded. The water is gradually invading all the neighborhoods. A little earlier in the afternoon, Jean-Louis Bogard, the deputy mayor, was on alert, constantly scanning the swelling Grand Morin River. “Since this morning, it has risen well. There are quite a few pieces of wood carried by the Morin,”

he notes.

It’s a bit scary because you wonder how high the water level will be able to rise.

Jean-Louis Bogard, deputy mayor

The flow of the river has intensified since this morning, justifying the placement of the Ile-de-France department on red alert. The deputy mayor therefore leaves to alert residents as quickly as possible. “It’s a little scary because we wonder how high the water level will be able to rise”he admits. Jean-Louis Bogard knows it, the Grand Morin risks overflowing within a few hours. “The houses protect themselves because the flood is able to rise to the houses there”he shows in the report above. Municipal services therefore hastily placed concrete blocks and sandbags on doorsteps.

Some residents have already taken the lead. “I barricaded myself in front. As the house is a little lower down to prevent it from running down to the house, like last time”indicates one of them. The last time was barely 15 days ago. At that time, Sylvie’s garden was under water. “I blocked it with concrete blocks which were taken away”she remembers. Forty centimeters of water had seeped into her home. So to prevent this from happening again, “I put together everything I could. We try to protect. We do what we can”she says, fatalistic.

In Pommeuse, five tonnes of sand available to residents

This Wednesday evening, the level of the Grand Morin is increasing by 30 centimeters per hour, raising fears of the worst, as confirmed by Lise Cloix, the special correspondent for TF1 who was live from Pommeuse, near . “Here, the town hall has made five tonnes of sand available to residents. The town has already been flooded three times since the start of the year. The last time was only 10 days ago,” she details in the video below.
