Roads and the ring road flooded

Flooding is reported on several roads in -Atlantique. The Pays de Retz is the most affected sector, notably Pornic. The Nantes ring road is flooded. Traffic is on one lane, the right lane, on the outer ring road from Porte de la Chapelle. A partial or total closure is being considered.

More than 274 interventions at 4:30 p.m.

More than 200 firefighters from Loire-Atlantique are engaged in 274 interventions, including nearly 170 in progress at 4:30 p.m., mainly for flooding of garages, cellars and houses. The municipalities most affected: La Plaine-sur-Mer, Pornic, Saint-Nazaire and Nantes. No casualties have been reported.

Significant rainfall accumulations

Over the last 24 hours, total rainfall reached 74 mm in Pornic, 66 mm in Loroux-Bottereau, 64 mm in Nantes, 55 mm in Carquefou and Machecoul, 51 mm in Donges, 49 mm in Saint-Nazaire, 48 mm in Saint-Philbert-de-Grandlieu. It’s not the rain that’s falling that’s the problem, but rather how it will behave in the final hours of the depression. The soils are saturated explains meteorologist Steven Tual.

A leisure center evacuated in Saint-Viaud

The commune of the Pays de Retz was not spared by the passage of the rainy front. Around thirty children were evacuated as a preventive measure while the mayor expected the worst .

Houses under water in Machecoul and Villeneuve

Firefighters were called to the village of La Voyetterie where several houses were flooded, as in 2018. On the Route de la Pommeraie, the water cascaded into the intake canal from a bridge.

Drowned in the mud near La Plaine-sur-Mer

Ditches and roads are no longer distinguishable under the lake-like bodies of water, despite the (flood) signs hastily installed by municipal services. Many parts of the Pornic – Saint-Nazaire blue road are cut; CD 313 towards Pointe Saint-Gildas is crossed by torrents coming from the fields; the lowest points of the territory are submerged in mud and water and impassable. The earth from the fields invades the local roads, the paths turn into torrents. Many homes are flooded. The residents have never seen such a deluge and did not believe the alerts from Météo-.

Recycling center closed in Saint-Brevin

The recycling center is no longer accessible and is closed. The cause: a flooded access road.

Services on alert in La Chapelle-sur-Erdre

In La Chapelle-sur-Erdre, the town alerted to the situation: Ditches overflowing onto the Grandchamp road, a tree cuts traffic on the Forge bridge (evacuation in progress), all municipal halls are closed this evening .

Damage to

The crisis unit activated on Tuesday in Orvault noted problematic situations this afternoon in several districts of the city: Bourg, Pont du Cens, Bigeottière, Baronnière and Petit Moulin. Several homes saw their cellars, garages or basements flooded .

Roads are also impacted by the Cens flood or due to the saturation of rainwater networks. The bottom of avenue Félix-Vincent is closed to traffic.

Several City buildings also suffered water damage. Rather light in schools or nurseries, more serious in certain gymnasiums: those of Bugallière, Ferrière, Petit-Chantilly and halls 1 and 2 of Cholière will not be accessible Thursday October 10 while the damage is identified and carry out the necessary interventions for their reopening.

The Ormédo media library had to close its manga area following infiltrations. The show scheduled for this evening at the Théâtre de la Gobinière is, however, maintained.
