Banjul, May 5 (APS) – The 15the OIC Summit which concluded on Sunday in Banjul urged the UN Secretary General to appoint a UN Special Envoy to counter Islamophobia and implement other measures relevant contained in these resolutions.

In the Banjul Declaration concluding the meeting, the heads of state paid tribute to Pakistan, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Turkey and other member states for leading the efforts of the General Assembly of United Nations in the adoption, in 2022, of resolutions making March 15 the “International Day to Combat Islamophobia” and “Measures to Combat Islamophobia” on March 15, 2024.

They called on OIC Member States and other countries to “take all measures, including legislative and policy measures, to combat religious intolerance, negative stereotypes, hatred, incitement to violence and violence against people because of their religion or beliefs”.
