Guest of “C à vous”, Laurent Ruquier reacted to the death of Jean-Marie Le Pen but also mentioned another figure of the extreme right: Eric Zemmour. And the host refuses to take the slightest responsibility for the media coverage of the ideas of his ex-columnist.
Guest on the set of C to you alongside actress Isabelle Carré, this Tuesday, January 7, host Laurent Ruquier came to promote his play The Mona Lisa finally speaks. But he was invited to react to various current issues, starting with the commemorations around the 10th anniversary of the attack on Charlie Hebdo and the death of Jean-Marie Le Pen.
In Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine's show, he took the opportunity to put the Eric Zemmour subject back on the table….
“I’m not going to cry…”
The 61-year-old host and author thus returned to a lawsuit brought against him by the Front National teams a few years ago, after he showed a caricature of Charb, in his show We are not in bed. A drawing that compared Marine Le Pen, then presidential candidate in France, to excrement. A position taken by the companion of Hugo Manos, but which did not please Jean-Marie Le Pen at all, who died this Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at the age of 96.
Asked about this death, Laurent Ruquier played it super neutral on the late far-right politician, repeatedly convicted by the courts during his life. “I don't have much to say because in any case the disappearance of a man, whoever he is, saddens me. So I'm not going to cry for Jean-Marie Le Pen but peace to his soul. We have to respect anyone who leaves. We can't say that he has bothered us a lot in recent years.”he soberly declared.
A few hours later, scenes of jubilation and celebration, with fireworks, occurred in several cities in France including Paris and Marseille, to “celebrate” the death of Le Pen senior.
Laurent Ruquier accused of having “favored ideas” by Éric Zemmour: his frank response
“Today he was no longer the problem anyway”still added Laurent Ruquier. And the host of Big Heads of RTL, which has always declared itself to vote on the left, continued: “Alas, we can see clearly that it is his daughter, because we can still see clearly that there is a lineage (…) and that there are stories and origins to these parties and that I do not Don't forget them…”
Laurent Ruquier then also wanted to clarify things about Eric Zemmour, who has long been a columnist in We are not in bed on France 2.”Often, I have been criticized for having favored these ideas by having Éric Zemmour on my shows. But, in 2002, Le Pen was already in the second round. We could not accuse either Éric Zemmour or the media. The main culprits are not the media, it is the people who vote. he said.
As a reminder, Laurent Ruquier hosted the founder of the far-right party, Reconquête, from 2006 to 2011 on his show. A place for several years in a very popular program which built the media coverage of the now politician.
