Kanye West and Apple in the same conversation? It’s possible. After the American rapper’s cover of a song by the French singer, the Internet was set alight.
On January 4, a video of Kanye West in the middle of a session in his recording studio went viral in France. The reason for this craze? The artist appears dancing to a melody which is strangely reminiscent of that of the singer Pomme in her title “Soleil Soleil”.
This music production technique is called “sampling”. It’s simply a matter of recovering a sample from a piece of music and diverting it to integrate it into a new track. This is a very common process in the music industry, and has been for decades. Kanye West is not the first American rapper to use the work of a French artist.

“I would like to clarify a situation regarding the potential use of my song ‘Soleil Soleil’ on Kanye West’s next project […]. I never agreed to the use of this sample for reasons that seem obvious to me, as I deeply disagree with the political positions of this artist whom I have greatly admired in the past. »
