Located at an altitude of 1,550 meters, the small ski station of Ghisoni Capanelle will not reopen its slopes for the moment, due to lack of snow.
The frozen snow crust observed in recent weeks remains largely insufficient to reach the minimum acceptable for skiing, necessary for the opening.
A recurring situation in recent years, but which does not affect the determination of the municipality, manager of the site, to maintain and preserve this emblematic infrastructure.
An annual effort despite climatic hazards
“We are ready, says Don Marc Albertini, the mayor of Ghisoni. Every year we do everything necessary: maintenance, safety inspections, slope preparation and even earthworks. This year, we redid the parking lot and part of the access road using a new coating. The staff is ready, the equipment is checked. Everything is in place, but the snow is not there.”
Between the preparatory work, the generator and the ski lifts, the municipality invests between 40,000 and 50,000 euros each year, not including salaries.
“It's a cost, but we accept it. This station is a symbol for us. It is not in financial danger, and we are determined to keep it ready, even if it remains closed for several years in a row”assures the mayor.
This year, the coating of the parking lot was even redone by the municipality in order to welcome visitors in the best conditions.
