The Progressive Metal band Nevermore, from Seattle, seems on the verge of a rebirth in 2025, despite the cessation of its activities in 2011 and the tragic loss of its singer Warrel Dane in December 2017. The recent clues left by guitarist Jeff Loomis and drummer Van Williams announce a new chapter for this iconic band.

A teaser that arouses hope

On December 27, 2024, Loomis and Williams shared an intriguing video on their social media, accompanied by phrases like “Resurrecting The Dream” et “A New Chapter Rises”. The video also shows the group’s logo and the year 2025. This teaser redirects to a site, nevermoreofficial.com, which appears to still be under development.

For fans, this unexpected announcement arouses as much excitement as it does questions. The video features silhouettes believed to be Loomis and Williams, but no further details about the project’s line-up or musical direction have yet been revealed.

An unexpected return after a tragedy

Nevermore officially ended its activities in 2011, following personal differences between Warrel Dane and bassist Jim Sheppard. Since then, the members had taken different paths: Dane was working on a new album with Sanctuary, while Van Williams was involved in various projects, including Ghost Ship Octavius.

Dane’s death in 2017 from a heart attack sealed what many considered to be the definitive end of Nevermore. Still, the recent announcement gives hope for a resurgence, even if questions persist about Dane’s replacement on vocals.

A complex context for the return

Nevermore’s latest studio album, The Obsidian Conspiracydates back to 2010. Since then, Jeff Loomis has had a long stint with Arch Enemy, which he left in December 2023. The teaser therefore suggests that Loomis and Williams are working on a new incarnation of Nevermore, but nothing has been confirmed regarding the participation of other former members or the exact form that this revival will take.
