Born October 24, 1927 in , François Gilbert Léopold Silly, better known under the pseudonym Gilbert Bécaud, left its mark on the French musical scene during his career. A real stage beast, the one everyone nicknamed “Mr. 100,000 volts” performed more than 30 times on the legendary Olympia stage during his life. On the private side, Gilbert Bécaud lived in Chesnay in , during the 1950s and 60s, before settling in the Tour in in the mid-70s. He had his piano transported by a crane before the roof was built. The singer finally died on December 18, 2001 in Boulogne-Billancourt, following lung cancer. He was then 74 years old. During his life, Emily Bécaud’s father was the father of six children in total: Gilbert, Philippe, Anne, Jennifer, Emily and finally Noï, a Laotian child whom he adopted with Kitty Bécaud in 1993.
