Free streaming will boost music charts and Gims is rubbing his hands! It’s official, the SNEP is now including free streaming in its music charts from July 1st as well as figures from YouTube. A decision that should make the scores of popular artists on streaming platforms explode.

Gims is delighted with the streaming reform!

Gims, one of the most streamed French rappers, is delighted with this new way of counting streams implemented by the SNEP. He also shared the information on his social networks, emphasizing that his latest clip is already at the top of musical trends on YouTube. This reform should indeed benefit artists who are successful on free platforms. Indeed, 7 free streams will be equivalent to 1 paid stream in the calculation of the rankings.

A major change for the music industry, which sees paid streaming being supplanted by free streaming as the dominant mode of consumption. This new situation should also have an impact on certifications, such as gold, platinum and diamond records. French rappers popular on free platforms should therefore see their sales explode, even if they only receive a fraction of the revenue generated by paid streams.

Gims relayed the information in an Instagram story to satisfy himself that YouTube views are now taken into account in the counts before adding that his latest clip “Spyder” in collaboration with Dystinct released 4 weeks ago already has more than 18 million views with a first place in musical trends on YouTube.
