The family of the late Joey Jordison, former drummer and founding member of the band Slipknot, has shared a photo of the very first logo he designed for the band. This iconic symbol, which has become synonymous with Slipknot’s identity, was sketched by Jordison in the mid-1990s.

Jordison, who helped create both Slipknot’s name and its distinctive imagery, revealed the logo’s origins during an interview with Kerrang! in 2017. “I drew this logo on my father’s old desk in the house I grew up in.”he remembered. “I had a little piece of paper and I drew it with pen and ink. He stained the desk! I took it to a band rehearsal and they loved it. Then almost half the band got the design tattooed – this was before we were signed.”

To commemorate Jordison’s contributions and legacy, his family posted a photo of the original drawing (on the desk) on their Instagram account, launched in July 2022. “The first tribal ‘S’ drawn by Joey on the desk passed down to him by his father”we can read in the caption. “To the fans, thank you for always supporting and loving Joey. You were everything to him. We love you Joey. Forever our number 1.”

Many people were quick to respond to the post and said they had the “tribal S” tattooed on their arm, illustrating Jordison’s lasting impact on Slipknot’s legacy and the deep connection fans feel with the group imagery.
