In an exclusive interview given to the “Today” show on the American television channel NBC, Celine Dion returned to her fight against stiff person syndrome.

Celine Dion continues her fight against stiff person syndrome (RPS), a rare neurological disease that she was diagnosed with in 2022.

In an interview with NBC News, the 56-year-old singer revealed that the severe pain could extend to “the abdomen, spine and ribs.”

It is precisely because of these violent spasms – as “Variety” reveals in a first extract of this shocking interview which will be published in full on June 11 – that the star found himself with broken ribs. “Sometimes when they are very strong, they can break ribs,” she told journalist Hoda Kotb.

Celine Dion, who has sold more than 200 million records worldwide, said that even singing had become painful: “It’s like someone was strangling me… like someone was crushing my larynx and pharynx when the spasms begin.

“I miss singing”

Speaking more generally about her living conditions since she was diagnosed with this rare disease, the Quebecer added: “I have the impression that if I point my feet, they will stay in that position. Or, if I’m cooking – because I love cooking – my fingers, my hands, will go into position… It’s a cramp, but it’s like in a position where you can’t unlock them.

The “My Heart Will Go On” singer will tell more about her fight against the SPR in the documentary “I Am: Céline Dion” which will be released on June 25 on Amazon Prime. “I work hard, but I have to admit it’s difficult. I miss singing. I miss people. I miss them,” she said in a video clip.
