Progressive Metal band Mastodon appear to be working on new music, as their recent studio activities suggest. On May 30, Brann Dailor, the band’s drummer and vocalist, shared a video showing his drum kit equipped with microphones, which got fans excited. When a fan asked if any new Mastodon material was in the works, Dailor responded ambiguously: “Something like that”.

The sessions take place at Mastodon’s West End Sound studio, where the band has previously recorded. While it’s unclear whether these sessions are for a new album, special release, or another project, the timing fits with guitarist Bill Kelliher’s late 2023 statement that it was “high time to “write a new album”.

In the meantime, Mastodon are gearing up for a major tour this summer, celebrating the 20th anniversary of their acclaimed 2004 album Leviathan. They will perform the album live each night, co-headlining with groove Metal band Lamb Of God. The latter will celebrate the 20th anniversary of his own 2004 album, Ashes Of The Wake, which was certified gold.

The tour will also feature concerts from Kerry King, Unearth and Malevolence, promising a heavy lineup that’s sure to excite metal fans.
