The leader Christian Thielemannformer music director of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Munich Philharmonic and the Staatskapelle Dresden, succeeds Daniel Barenboim as music director of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin. For the Berlin Staatskapelle – the opera’s resident orchestra which has seen eminent conductors such as those of Richard Strauss, Erich Kleiber and Herbert von Karajan – the arrival of Christian Thielemann marks the beginning of a new musical era. On the program, among other things, for this first concert: Elysium by the young Canadian composer Samy Moussathe Piano Concerto No. 2 in D minor from Felix Mendelssohn with Igor Levit on keyboard, and the symphonic poem Pelléas et Mélisande byArnold Schönberg.
