Aswell: the secrets of its dazzling success

Since his launch on the music scene, Aswell, whose real name is Louis, has conquered hearts with his unique style mixing rap, pop and emo pop. Spotlight on this exclusive meeting to discover the secrets of his dazzling success and his musical universe as a 25-year-old prodigy.

Aswell began his musical career at the age of 13 or 14, with the group La Collection. After exploring the horizons of the collective, he decided to chart his own path as a solo artist.

“I started making my own productions, mixing, because I had a different vision of what I wanted to do with my music,” confides the rapper. This bold vision led him to go solo on Spotify in 2018, marking the beginning of his rise.

His first album, Suburb, released at the beginning of March, is the result of deep introspection. The very title of the album reflects his attachment to his city, his past, and the torments of his life experiences.

“It’s me who writes all my lyrics, and this album marks an era, marks the last 10 years of my life. I really wanted to touch everything, commandeer my place in the rap game and tell people that I’m here,” he explains.

“I am very attached to my city, my past, my youth and all the tumult in my lovemaking. That’s why the album is called Suburb. These are the themes that collide in the album. »

A strong start for the young artist, living up to his hopes and the work put in. Is he satisfied? “100%, it couldn’t be better. THE shows in theaters, it’s crazy! People resonate with the album,” he says with pride.

Aswell didn’t just follow the beaten path to achieve his ascension, he created it himself through hard work. “I don’t have a record label, I’m my own managerI’m the one who does everything,” he declares boldly.

His entrepreneurial spirit and independence have allowed him to reach unexpected heights. “It’s really good to be independent and it will stay like that for as long as possible,” says the singer.

The outlet of his melancholy

While his album is a resounding success, Aswell confides in the trials of his life, reflected in his lyrics full of sincerity which make his success.

“What inspires me is very important. There are two things that have made Aswell successful since it started: the fact that it’s very catchy, the choruses and the verses in terms of melody and flow, it’s earworms. Then afterwards, it’s really the texts where people identify a lot,” he declares with humility.

“I draw a lot of inspiration from my life and I try to take reality, how it makes me feel deep down, it’s almost therapeutic. It’s really life that inspires me, everything that happens to me in my daily life and I really try to be as specific as possible. This is what the world will identify with the most, it is more universal on the most unique experience. » This is his motto.

While his songs often evoke nostalgia and heartbreak, Aswell insists his music is also a celebration of life.

“In my life, I am a fairly happy person, music serves me when it is not feel not. I put my pain into my music, it’s often the things that want to come out the most. I had a psychotic episode when I was in high school, so there is a lot of connection to that, every time I talk about the problems in my head,” he confides with emotion.

“There was this part, so it’s mixing that with heartbreak and that’s often what comes up. But, in general, I am a very happy person and it shows in my showsit’s really a party“, he rejoices.

Impetuous goals

Nicknamed the “Streamosphere Phenomenon,” Aswell owes his success to his innate talent for creating catchy choruses and deep lyrics that resonate with his audience. But for him, the real goal is to transcend virtual boundaries to become a real-life phenomenon.

For Aswell, the future looks bright. “Developing France would be the optimum with a goal of greatness and becoming number one in Quebec, those would be my two goals,” he declares enthusiastically. His all-consuming ambition pushes him to explore new horizons and to want to collaborate with other artists. “Continue to make new music that reinvents itself, to go elsewhere and do collaborations with other artists and then we will check for the album. That’s going to be it,” concludes the musician with determination on his future projects.

Aswell will be performing on May 14 at 8 p.m. at Domaine Forget.
