Radio Nova Lyon, it’s almost over.
The Combat group of investment banker Matthieu Pigasse has obtained from Arcom to change the category of its Lyon frequency to be able to broadcast its national program on 89.8 within a few weeks.
To facilitate its arrival between Rhône and Saône in 2017, Radio Nova had made an alliance with the associative radio RTU and showered the CSA with promises on the Lyon and local side of its future broadcasts.
This therefore does not prevent the French media policeman from accepting this change of heart: “The authorization granted to SAS RTU to operate a category C service by terrestrial radio frequency modulation in the Lyon area is transferred to SARL Radio Nova in order to operate a category D radio service called Radio Nova”.
This transition from local to national is a classic manipulation in the world of radio, but which was carried out in less than stellar conditions. Because the teams based in Brotteaux learned about it at the last moment, sometimes even through the press. According to Rue89Lyon, it was during a meeting in Paris this week that the announcement was made to them by Frédéric Antelme, antenna director of Nova, who reportedly declared: “You are aware, Nova Lyon is going to close. Sorry that’s how it is, we couldn’t announce it four months before, there would have been a loss of motivation for the troops”.
As LyonMag revealed in 2021, despite the efforts of Grégory Doucet and his assistant for Culture Nathalie Perrin-Gilbert who had released aid of 25,000 euros for Nova Lyon, the losses of the Lyon branch were too significant to the group who preferred to turn off the tap. And too bad for Lyon which cedes yet another frequency to the Parisians.
