Sion and the Super League are only separated by a few formalities. The Valaisans may still have to do the job in Bellinzona in a week, or even against Schaffhausen three days later. There is little doubt that they will succeed. The real last stage to take was Thursday in Aarau. And the Sédunois went to reap the most precious of victories (1-2).

FC Sion had everything to do well. The support of Valaisans who came in large numbers to Brügglifeld, an opponent who no longer plays anything this season, the advantage of the first goal and even one more man on the field for the entire second half. In these times when Sion has resumed the habit of complaining about its refereeing treatment, we can even add to the list Mr. Lionel Tschudi, very good on the whistle on Thursday.

For a long time, this was not enough to tip the scales in the right direction. More out of clumsiness and lack of concentration than anything else. Very serious in Aargau, Sion simply forgot himself at an annoying moment: just after Théo Bouchlarhem opened the scoring (33rd). The French winger jumped higher than everyone on a corner, scoring in an area where you wouldn’t necessarily expect him. Except that barely three minutes later, Shkelqim Demhasaj could equalize on one of the rare possibilities of the FCA. There wasn’t going to be much more, Isaac Pappoe committing a big foul at mid-field which earned him a red card just before the break.

FC Sion then found itself testing its patience. Probably the last challenge he had to face to return to the Super League. For half an hour, the Valaisans did not find the fault. They were simply awaiting the arrival of the providential man. In the 70th, Georgi Rusev came off the bench. Six minutes later, the Bulgarian striker scored his second goal for Sion, much more important than the anecdotal goal in a 4-1 against Baden in February.

Zion had done it. Aarau was defeated and would never return. It would now take a cataclysm for promotion to escape him. He could even celebrate his promotion on Saturday evening, if Thun loses against Schaffhausen. It would certainly be sad to experience such a moment from a distance. We can guess that Sion would happily be satisfied with this.
