[EXTRAIT] His first role in “Les Armes”: his father is Celine Dion’s musical director and his mother is a singer from the 1980s

Audrey Price didn’t tell anyone she was the daughter of Scott Price, Celine Dion’s music director, when she showed up for her very first audition for the role of infantry recruit Rose Girard on the series The Weapons.

When she got the acting contract and started filming last spring, she had just graduated from the Conservatoire d’art dramatique de Montréal. Even then, she didn’t want to mention her blood ties in order to forge her own path, independent of her father’s reputation.

“I was afraid that people would know who my father was because I wanted to make my own way,” she said in an interview, adding that she visited him in Las Vegas and “of course met the beautiful and kind Celine,” whose producer WeaponsFabienne Larouche, is a great admirer.

It was when Scott Price accompanied the Quebec singer on the piano on the Eiffel Tower during the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics that the news began to spread on the set of director Jean-Philippe Duval.

The best summer of his life

Landing her first contract after her very first audition and, what’s more, playing in a production led by Fabienne Larouche does not intimidate Audrey Price, who says she is “lucky” to be so well surrounded. The producer is full of praise for the young actress. At the press screening of Weaponsin early September, she predicted a rich career as an interpreter for him while talking to journalists.

Recruits don’t always have it easy at the Kanawata military base, as we’ve discovered since the beginning of the series. Rose Girard, who is trying to make her way in the army, was even humiliated when Chief Warrant Officer Thomas Dallaire (Frédéric Millaire Zouvi) revealed in front of everyone that she had been gang raped at the age of 17.

“I hope I don’t disappoint her,” Audrey responded with a smile in her voice.

Modest, she speaks of “teamwork”, she who was coached for this role by her professor at the Conservatory, the actor and director Maxime Denommée, and who was invited by Eve Landry on the set ofWith beating heart to observe how things were going before filming began. Weapons.

“I’m also so lucky that Jean-Philippe Duval is the first director to direct me. He took me by the hand and showed me the basics. I was told that not all directors take that time with new ones.”

No wonder in these circumstances that she speaks of the Weapons as a “new family” and the “best summer of [s]a vie”, the one where she filmed the first 12 episodes of the annual TVA series.

She also developed lasting bonds with her playmates, notably with Lou Vincent-Desrosiers, whose character has the same first name as her in the series and who is the daughter of actress Isabelle Vincent and director Claude Desrosiers.

A “heart-throb” character

“She went through something so terrible – a gang rape – she’s still dealing with it. She’s still dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder. She’s going to realize that we need other people in life.”

This is what happens in the third episode of the series, this Monday, when Rose begins quietly but surely to develop “a bond of trust” with Mick Vanier (Émile Schneider) after having burst the boil with the other recruits by saying that she is anything but a victim.

“At first, Rose is angry with Mick, because during the humiliation scene with Dallaire [Frédéric Millaire Zouvi]he came to her aid and she wants to save herself. Knowing what she has been through, we understand better why she is stubborn and not always kind. We realize that there are so many layers and reasons underneath to explain her attitude, we just have to dig. I feel like Rose is a part of me. I find her so strong, I have a lot to learn from her, “concluded Audrey Price.

  • Produced by Aetios Productions, in collaboration with Quebecor Content, the series The Weapons is broadcast every Monday at 8 p.m., on TVA and on TVA+. From 9 p.m., the same evening, the next episode is available on Club illico.
