The Côtes-d'Armor gendarmerie was contacted by victims of telephone “spoofing” using the number of a territorial brigade. This maneuver consists of usurping the telephone number of someone or a known organization, with the aim of deceiving a victim. Spoofing comes from the English verb “parody”, and is attributed to identity theft: the victim responds to a number which is recognized, or even accompanied by a “trusted” contact, therefore risks being less vigilant.
The gendarmerie reminds you that they will never ask you for money or bank details, and that if in doubt, you should contact 17.
