The Awakening of Pont-Audemer. There are several types of yoga that are more or less dynamic. What does the yoga nidra that you have been offering for several weeks at the Agora consist of?
Ellen Liblin: “It has the particularity of being practiced lying on a mat. Participants who wish can bring a small cushion and a blanket so as not to feel cold. Because yoga nidra is practiced for an hour without moving. Immobility allows you to feel what is moving inside the body. We then become aware of our breathing rhythm, our heartbeat, the air around us and our blood flow. To summarize, we are subtly listening to the body.
What are the benefits of yoga nidra?
Benefits on sleep, mood regulation, heart rate and blood pressure.
How do you facilitate this session? Are you also in a lying position?
I am sitting on the ground. I have a guiding role. Participants focus on the rhythm and tone of my voice. In each session, there is a relaxation, visualization and breathing part. We work every week on a different theme: freedom from fears, self-confidence, the ability to overcome difficulties, letting go…
Immobile and immersed in such a zen state, isn't there a risk of falling asleep during the session?
Yes, participants can go to sleep. But it doesn't matter at all. The first sessions, everyone sleeps! (Laughs) You should know that 45 minutes of yoga nidra is equivalent to two hours of deep sleep because you are in a state of total relaxation.
A total relaxation
Yoga puts the person into an altered state, just before sleep. But as the sessions progress, the participants become more and more present. They have a stronger awareness of what is happening around them. We work a lot on the quality of presence.
What is the profile of the participants who follow your sessions?
Some come to seek relief from physical or psychological pain. Others want to improve the balance between their private and professional lives. As the session takes place between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., the person approaches the second part of the day peacefully and with their batteries recharged.
