Rupert Grint is a world famous British actor. At the age of 12, he became one of the most famous children on the planet playing the role of Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter saga. But years later, what happened to one of the stars of Harry Potter? While controversies are swelling around the new series, which should collaborate with JK Rowling, Rupert Grint is also affected by bad news.

For several years, the actor had been waging a legal battle with taxes. During the year 2011-2012, Rupert Grint received the sum of 4.5 million pounds. This was a royalty for revenue from the Harry Potter franchise on DVD sales, TV rights as well as streaming rights. However, Rupert Grint considered this money to be a capital asset rather than income, and therefore did not report it for taxes.
Unfortunately, HM Revenue and Customs, a department of the British government responsible for collecting certain taxes, did not agree. According to the administration, this sum was income which had to be declared for tax and the actor therefore had to pay 1.8 million pounds. For several years, Rupert Grint opposed this decision and his lawyers decided to appeal in 2022.

Finally, after years of legal battle, the courts did not rule in favor of the actor, now 36 years old. According to information reported by BFMTV, it was decreed that this sum was indeed “taxable as income”. Thus, Rupert Grint must pay 1.8 million pounds in taxes, or approximately 2.1 million euros.
