A24 revealed the first trailer for the horror thriller Heretic by Bryan Woods and Scott Beck, with Chloe East, Sophie Thatcher and Hugh Grant.

A terrifying trailer marked the return of the vampire Nosferatuet this is not the only horror film trailer we have seen in recent days. For example, we were treated to the trailer for The Beast Within with Kit Harington, or the trailer for The Front Room and his nightmarish mother-in-law distributed by A24.

And it doesn’t seem like it’s going to stop there. In fact, after The Front RoomA24 recently unveiled a new trailer, this time for the film Heretic directed by Bryan Woods and Scott Beck. Here, no vampire, nor Kit Harington or demonic mother-in-law, but just two young women who will have the misfortune of entering the wrong house.

Heretic, it’s obviously about religion.

The pitch of the film is very simple: two pious young women are trapped in the house of an eccentric man. And this is more or less what the trailer also shows us, which remains generally evasive on what will really happen to them and on the nature of the evil that puts them in danger (and that’s good!). Spirit, monster or just a deranged psychopath, hard to say, but it’s obvious that Heretic will deal heavily with the theme of religion (the title is not stupid), like many other horror films before it.

Bryan Woods and Scott Beck were responsible for directing and writing the film. The two men had notably written the screenplay for the first Without a sound and distinguished themselves in the production with Haunt in 2019. However, they also gave us the very bad sci-fi thriller 65: The Earth Before with Adam Driver in 2023. So even if it’s rather promising to find them in a smaller budget horror film, we’re going to stay on our guard (which is what the heroines of Heretic if the trailer is to be believed).

Everything will probably go very well

As for the casting, we will find in the main roles Chloe East (Generation), Sophie Thatcher (The Bogeyman, Yellowjackets) and the immense Hugh Grant, who is really not reassuring in this trailer. SO, Heretic will it be yet another replica of the horror genre where the pious heroines see a demon descend on them, a barely hidden criticism of religion? To be sure, you will have to form your own opinion. when the film is released on December 4, 2024.
